I use a PO Box myself for my domain registrations (and much of the rest of my snail mail). I've never receive a telephone call relating to my domain registration, which may be related to the fact that the number is on the National Do-Not-Call list.

But all of that is beside the point. The point is, if you're trying to contact your friend about his expired domain and you suspect that the email address is no longer valid, you should be able to send a snail mail to him at the domain registration mailing address, or call him at the domain registration telephone number. Even if it goes to a POB or voicemail, he should receive it.

If he's let the domain registration expire, and all of the contact information is no longer valid, well, I'd say let Dave Null handle the mail buildup.

True ... but I prefer to NOT specify my home phone or home address ... I have a PO box and voice-mail specifically for my domain registrations.

It may seem paranoid, but I do prefer my privacy.

And I know for a fact that there are a number of companines (many of them considered reputable) that scan the whois data to send junkmail.

The domain registration, in addition to a valid email address, should have a valid phone number and a valid mailing address that you can use for contacting the registrant.
